The tape is often used for knit seams that tend to stretch and lose shape during garment wear, such as shoulder seams of T-shirts or sweaters. 

With a ribbon, it is easy to create gathers. 

It can also be used for hanging clothes with loops and can possibly be sewn into the skirt part to prevent the fabric from slipping down.
